Weather
Wendy Taylor Carlisle
Out the window, a grey morning--
trees urge to bud but show no leaves.
There’s a furtive rumble of grievance in the mountains.
Hard politics and the slight jitter of future drought,
the wonder of sandbars in the lake,
grocery prices up and well-meaning neighbors
polish their guns.
Could it be that this year winter missed us?
We anticipate late snow as,
behind the hedge, spring kills time,
whips up a broken-egg wind.
