We are born of a question
and dance together
apart
together
as its answer.
We are born and rush from
the dim room of certainties
out
into the vast, bright
unanswerable.
You are born and I am born
every day
as strangers.
The wonder isn’t that we love
as if from different cities
but that we are different cities
absent rail tracks, wires, common language
yet still we wake
in unison.
