Shift Change
Dave Morrison
The Night Crew is attentive but
clearly fatigued, so they waste
no movement, talk little,
complete primary tasks, wanting
only to finish the shift
without mishap.
The Day crew is fired up on
donuts and coffee, shouting
and shoving and trying to
assert themselves. They gab
about last night’s tv and sports,
float political theories and are
always looking for some
kind of fight.
The Night Crew regards them
silently, remembering when they
had so much energy to
waste.
