The Net
John Repp
The net dripped.
The net of nylon mesh
scissored square & tacked
on a scrap-wood frame--
hand net, not pole net or seine--
dripped. Tang of brackish water
slopping the sides of the tank
salvaged from the the bulldozed dairy
(maybe). Small stink of bloated minnows,
bloated by & in the small stink the synaptic
methane of syntax relentlessly makes.
White-bellied, stiff-finned, bottoms-up
fish whose eyes something had begun
scooping from the nearly weightless sockets.
Of course, the maybe-nylon net still drips.
Will always drip if “always” = how
Sappho’s Greek drips & drips.
