It Changes Nothing
Ivanka Fear
The world doesn't change if I write a poem.
When I was young, I thought I could change the world.
But, of course, nothing changed.
The world ignored me and kept spinning out of my control.
My poems died before they were born.
The world doesn't change if I write a story.
When I was young, my story lay waiting on the path ahead.
But I lost sight of it.
The world had other plans for me and set up a roadblock.
My story ended before it was begun.
The world doesn't change if I write that great novel.
When I was young, I memorized it by heart.
But it was never published.
The world was indifferent and no one cared.
My novel lay buried six feet under waiting for me to join it.
Nothing changed. People were born, people died. The world kept turning.
It made me dizzy.
No, the world doesn't change if I write.
But then... one day I wrote a poem and someone actually read it.
When I was older, I understood I couldn't change the world. But something changed.
Someone found meaning in that poem and their life stopped spinning out of control.
My poem changed a life.
One day I wrote a story and someone read it.
When I was older, I understood my story wasn't over yet. It simply took a different path.
Someone understood the message in that story and broke through the roadblock in their life.
My story changed someone’s future.
One day I wrote a novel and it's still waiting to be read.
Someday, I hope to release the words to the world. But it's not published. Yet.
Someone might find enjoyment or enlightenment within and care to share with others.
My novel might change something.
It won't change the world. But people will reflect and people will connect.
The world will turn at a different pace.
No, the world doesn't change because I write.
The world only changes because you read.
