Bright Yellow
Tim Marsh
Yellow hands
Offensively bright in the morning sun
The last time I saw you -- part of you
Sliding up in my car
From my vantage point --
peering out the window
I was unable to see your head
Your torso bounded out of the house
Standing on the porch
Hands clothed in yellow dish gloves
Radiant and upbeat, your mood was also yellow
The yellow gloves spoke to me
Making small talk
Bright yellow small talk
Yellow hands gesturing their shiny southern charms
But the yellow gloves have nothing to be happy about
Our relationship, so carefully cultivated
Has wilted and died
Over fertilized, over watered
A victim of too much caring
Stop pretending
Hands be still!
Tear the gloves off
Trade them in for a pair of black, blue or gray
Something dark, mirroring reality
Bright yellow happy talk notwithstanding
