Mourning
Michael De Rosa
There are rituals for,
when someone passes.
We say they are in a better place,
Their suffering has ended,
when ours is just beginning.
We wear black,
sackcloth
wail
say the Kaddish.
Sit Shiva.
Every culture,
religion,
memorializes
those that have left us.
But what do we do.
Say,
mourn
when the person we love,
still breathes.
Can hug and kiss us,
but not remember why.
Each of us has to find
our own path,
to let go.
Say good-bye
to the person
they once were.
